Top 5 Songs about Food

5. Blueberry Hill – Louis Armstrong
This is a classic. I remember picking blueberries for pocket money as a kid. 1 in the bucket, 1 in the mouth…

4. Roast Fish and Cornbread - Lee Scratch Perry
Okay I may have only picked this to include a good reggae song considering that's my favourite genre. I guess I could have gone with Bob's guava jelly but I love roast fish and I love cornbread. I’m yet to have them together but ‘Uncle Scratch’ has convinced me to try.

3. Cherry Pie – Warrant
This has been resurrected for those Ads where a dove is used to open a bottle containing some kind of beverage. You know the one. Mmm, Cherry Pie.

2. Pour Some Sugar on Me – Def Leppard
I fell out of love with the Leppards for a time. Last week I heard this again. The flame has been rekindled.

1.	Eat it – Weird Al Yankovic
Weird Al’s first big hit. With song and video combined this is one of the best musical parodies ever!

Jet, the Killers, Radio and All-round Foxiness!

I was at an Arts forum recently where CC the Cat made a comment that stuck with me. She said something along the lines of "Sometimes we can get down by thinking on the things we haven't accomplished. Sometimes instead of making a 'To Do' list, perhaps we should make a 'Have Done' list and whatever the accomplishments are be proud of them and celebrate them!"

She probably articulated that better as I'm just going off memory but it made me think because I was getting down on myself wondering why we hadn't 'made it' so to speak. I made a 'Have Done' list and realised that a lot of good has come our way and for that I'm grateful.

In summary - Celebrate your accomplishments - big or small! Playing your first gig, playing your first paid gig, recording your first demo, single, e.p., album whatever! We're artists. Getting down on ourselves is part and parcel and can actually help with creativity but too much of a bad thing is, well, a bad thing:)

We may not be reeling in the cash but we're having a helluva a good time anyway!

Anyway, here's a portion of our list, what's yours?

Opened for Jet

Made album with ARIA winning producer

Toured NZ twice

Won HRC Battle of the Bands

Interviewed on Sea FM, Hot FM, Coast Fm etc.

Made heaps of cool fans

Performed at a party in front of the Killers...

etc.

Naked in the Basement

I had an epiphany yesterday.

As our newborn daughter Akira worked herself in to a state of inconsolability (due to her being hungry and Maria having ducked out to the shops), I took her for a walk outside. She immediately began to settle. This wasn’t a new experience for me. I’ve always noticed that when I take an unsettled baby or child outside that they more often than not calm down. Many other parents and carers have probably noticed that too.

So what was the epiphany?

I suddenly realised that man was not meant to spend as much time as we do indoors. We are a part of nature so why then do we separate ourselves from nature as much as we do?

Here’s this months challenge. Every morning, instead of heading straight for the fridge, or the computer (use the toilet first if necessary), step outside and take a deep breath. Let nature linger upon your senses. Come to a realisation that the whole world is our home.

Mayan Fox News:

Our album is agonisingly close to completion! This has been a very long and strenuous road for us and we can’t wait to share with you all the culmination of our hard work. With that said though it has also been a lot of fun and we believe the album will reflect our attitude to life and enhance your day just by listening to it!

Mayan Fox Gigs:

Thursday May 27th - Unplugged at the Basement – Gold Coast Arts Centre – 8pm – Tix $10 (with free digital EP.)

Saturday May 29th - Encore Performance at the Wallaby – Mudgeeraba – Gold Coast – 8pm

Alright that's all from us for the month of April. Thank you for all of your support.

The Worst Song Lyrics of All Time

I’ll admit that I’m no Leonard Cohen when it comes to writing prose but I feel I’m at least worthy enough to judge the latest Chris Brown song ‘Transformer’ as having some of the worst lyrics of all time. It’s as if they were written by a prepubescent boy who had just come back from watching Megan Fox running around in her denim hotpants on ‘Revenge of the Fallen’. “Imma transform ya like a transformer…” “turn you from a human in to a ca-ar!”

In mock honour of this pathetic attempt at rhetoric I’ve listed some of my Worst 5 song lyrics of all time! I’m not judging the songs, just the lyricism.

5. “I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna really
really really wanna zigazig Ahhh." (Spice Girls – Wannabe)

I really really really wanna blow my self up (after listening to this song)

4. "...scared of a ghost, rather have a piece of toast... keep a rabbit's tail... blah blah blah" ('Des'ree - Life)

Infuriatingly dumb lyrics. By the way, correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it the rabbit's foot not the tail that's supposed to bring luck?

3. “And there's music playing but I can't hear a sound just the sound of the rain falling silently down” (Cheap Trick's - 'Ghost Town')

What does silent rain sound like?

2. "Have you ever been to Saint-Tropez or seen a brother play a mandalay?" (Sean Puff P Daddy Diddy Combe’s 'I Need a Girl (Part Two)'

What’s a Mandalay? Did he mean Mandolin?

1.“It’s like 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife” (Alanis Morrisette – ‘Ironic’)

Every lyric in this song is just plain dumb considering the fact that there are no ironic examples. This one takes the cake though. Who the hell has 10,000 spoons and no knife?

My Top 5 Songs that have the Number 1 in the Title

Christmas is over (at least it is for us Southern Hemisphererers). Now we look ahead to 2010.

In premature celebration (or is it audacious anticipation?) of Mayan Fox having a number 1 song in 2010 I thought that I'd list my Top 5 songs with the number 1 in the title. Agree or disagree as you please

1. One Drop (Bob Marley)
2. One (Metallica)
3. One (U2)
4. No One Knows (Queens of the Stone Age)
5. One Crowded Hour (Augie March)

Hottest 100 Dead Musicians

Okay maybe not 100. I was just thinking about Triple J's Hottest 100 of all time and Nirvana/Kurt Cobain's placing which got me to thinking, "Who are the hottest musicians that have passed on 'before their time'?" (which will exclude Frank Sinatra etc.) Odd subject maybe but these are the 10 who I rate (in no particular order).

10. Elliott Smith
9. Sam Cooke
8. Elvis Presley
7.Jeff Buckley
6. Bon Scott
5. Jimi Hendrix
4. Michael Jackson
3. Marvin Gaye
2. John Lennon
1. Bob Marley

Teenage Girl, Michael Jackson, Jason Mraz, Strong Men, & More!

Welcome to the first blog on the first Mayan Fox website!

What do we write about?

Are you familiar with us individually?

Let us introduce ourselves (in the 3rd person).

Maria 'Fox' Hamon (nee: Wilder) - birthplace: Nicaragua

She's the estrogen in a room full of testestorone!
As a 6 year old she picked up her first instrument (violin) followed by the piano and then, inspired by her biggest teenage girl crush, Michael Jackson (she was oblivious to the fact that he was so much older than her!) Maria took up singing and dancing.
Maria's super powers include the ability to fly and drink large volumes of tomato sauce

Nate 'Fox' Hamon - birthplace: New Zealand

Nate met Maria when he was a Personal Trainer. She lost 20 kilos and he learnt how to sing.
Nate loves pushing weight and while only 80 kilos he can bench press almost double that and can do 27 pull ups in a row.
Nate's super powers include X-ray vision and feeding seagulls

Maui 'Fox' Whaanga - birthplace: New Zealand

Maui and Nate went to the same High School in New Zealand (CCNZ).
Maui can pick up any instrument and within minutes learn how to play it.
Maui's super powers include speed of light sprinting and 10 pin bowling without any pins.

Scotty 'Fox' Sands - birthplace: Australia

Scotty is one of a small percentage of true (lifelong) Gold Coast, Australia locals.
Scotty is influenced by everthing from Rockabilly to Jazz.
Scotty's super powers include super muscle elasticity (like that Fantastic Four guy) and bubble blowing.

Dwaine 'Fox' Woolley - birthplace: Australia

Dwaine is a gym nut who will let you feel his biceps if you join our mailing list.
Dwaine is the drummer who can find grooves for the un-grooviest songs.
Dwaine's super powers include lifting 50 billion times his own weight and memorising Jason Mraz lyrics.

Anyway, I know that wasn't a blog in the truest sense but I thought that you might like to get to know us a little better before we intensify and heat up our relationship!:)

Until next time
